Introduction
Welcome to my place on the web! Since April 2002 I work at CERN, just outside Geneva in Switzerland. As a fellow in the Silicon Pixel Detector group in the ALICE experiment I mainly worked with beam test software development in C++. After the contract ended in 2005, I worked with parallel computing in the ROOT/PROOF team for a few months. In May 2006, I joined the ATLAS experiment PANDA team to work with distributed analysis, hired by University of Texas at Arlington as a Research Engineering Scientist Associate (level 2). I finished my Ph.D. in 2001 in Ultra-Relativistic Heavy-Ion physics, at the Division of Cosmic and Subatomic Physics, Lund University, Sweden. The thesis topic was particle production in the WA98 and  PHENIX experiments. After the dissertation, I traveled around the world for several months before arriving in Geneva.

Work
I currently work with software development in the US led PANDA team. PANDA is a job management system associated with the US Open Science Grid (OSG) and is specifically designed for distributed analysis and production. The distributed analysis system aims to bring computing power on a global scale to thousands of scientists by offering them access to vast computing resources for their analyses while shielding them from the complexities of the grid environments.

My physics interests are related to particle physics; Supersymmetry and Higgs, Large Extra Dimensions, miniature Black Holes and Gravitation. It is my aim to do physics research in these fields when the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN comes online.

Private
In my spare time I enjoy the surrounding mountains (Juras and Alps), either by climbing or hiking them. Other sport activities I like include swimming, diving (preferably in the tropics, I hold an Advanced PADI Open Water license), biking and running.
I've played the guitar for more than 20 years and I listen to a lot of music. At CERN we used to have a rock band called Moonsoup with original material. Watching movies is another great interest of mine, and so is short story and poetry writing. On my vacations I love going to exotic destinations such as remote islands in the South Pacific, hiking in New Zealand or walking the streets of New York City. The last few trips went to Colombia, Jamaica, England, Sri Lanka, Maldives and the USA. Some pictures can be found in the gallery page.

After the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, I helped start a relief project in Sri Lanka together with my wife, and with the help of many friends in Sweden, France and Switzerland, which is still run by AIESEC Sri Lanka. These are the reports so far: January 2005, October 2005.

Every now and then I update my blog with the latest news from the western front..Neptono
